Don't Let Columbia Get Away With Murder!
In March 2003, the Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations
wrote to NIH Director Elias A. Zerhouni about a probe into NIH spending
that it intended to undertake: “Given these significant budget
increases over the last five years, the NIH-admitted need for confidence
building, and the public interest in wise management of government
resources, the Committee is conducting an examination of NIH management
and oversight of its federally funded research.”
Tell the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee members that
you appreciate their efforts to make the NIH accountable for the
way in which our tax dollars are spent and that you would like the
Subcommittee to look into the millions of dollars given to Columbia
for cruel experiments that do not hold any promise for improvements
to human health. Tell them that Columbia should not be rewarded
for sloppy science and poor animal care when the standards for animal
care set by the government are so minimal that they could be followed
by a 2-year-old. Be sure to mention the fact that Columbia does
not, with all the money it gets, give these imprisoned primates
any socialization or enrichment at all, which they are required
to do by law. Click

The current chair of the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee is:

Please copy your letter to Acting Secretary Charles E. Johnson, the person
who oversees the NIH. Ask him to order Acting NIH Director Raynard S. Kington
to close Columbia’s animal laboratories until a thorough investigation
and housecleaning can be completed (click

And don't leave out the person who is most concerned with raising funds for Columbia:
David Stern
Commissioner of the NBA
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Columbia University

And finally, please contact your own senators and representative
by clicking
here. Sending an e-mail message is helpful, sending an automatic
fax is better, printing and mailing the automatic letter is even
better, and using the information to write your own letter is the
most effective of all.
Now
brace yourself for the video showing animals from each Columbia
University vivisector—Connolly, Ferin, and Stark—along
with the other primates at Columbia who have nothing to do but sway,
pace, and spin in their cages while they await their own murder.
Many thanks to each one of you for helping these animals.
